Greenhouse Effect
GreenhouseEffect
Does the Earth have a fever?
The Greenhouse Effect is the name given to the process by which a layer of gases in the atmosphere traps and prevents heat generated by the Earth from being released. This phenomenon is both natural and beneficial: if it weren’t for these gases, our planet would be a ball of ice with an average temperature of 15 degrees below zero. But nothing is good in excess: human activity over the last two centuries has made this layer too thick, leading to an imbalance in energy and rising temperatures.
The climate isn’t the same anymore:
the average rise in temperature over a century
The graph shows the changes in temperature in Goiânia and 17 other Brazilian state capitals from 1851 to 2024, in comparison with the verified average between 1961 and 1990. The reddest part represent the highest temperatures. This data comes from the “Show your Stripes” initiative of Reading University, UK. No data available for Brasilia.

Simulation of the Future
What difference would a little extra CO2 make in your life? A huge difference! In this experiment, you'll see what will happen to Earth's atmosphere if the concentration of carbon dioxide doubles compared to today. Introduce some CO2 into the globe and see what happens to the temperature.
